Things I believe - an evolving list
Fried chicken is fried chicken: I love seeking out stimulating experiences and sometimes I get caught up in the expectations that get created as a result. You can eat the best fried chicken in the world, but its still just fried chicken.
Sometimes you just need to hit your backhand: I've played tennis most of my life. I love Roger Federer - the way he plays the game and what he represents. I remember hearing talk of how he had been rebuilding his game after he'd stopped winning everything. A new coach had told him that he needed to stop worrying whether the ball went in or out; that he needed to not be afraid to miss. I try to play the game the same way, and the same applies often to my life. The next time I played tennis after I heard this, the first chance I had to hit a backhand (my weaker side) I just hit the ball with no regard for what happened. The ball went out of the court, through the park and down the road. Gone forever. But it felt great and I played brilliantly afterwards.
Aim for simplicity: I believe everyone, in their own way, longs for a simple life. Simple means something different to everyone, but the process of seeking a simple life seems to me to be the best way to live.
The line between 'success' and 'failure' is astonishingly thin.
